Subdomain or your own domain: the difference

Your website always has an address. The question is whose name is in it.

Subdomain: the free address

• It looks like this: yourbusiness.yourweb4free.com. Your name comes first, but inside our address.
• You have it from day one, on every plan, with nothing to set up.
• It's perfect for starting out, trying things and showing your site. But it's longer, harder to read out over the phone, and it shows that it was made with a tool.

Your own domain: your name

• It looks like this: yourbusiness.com. Just your name, nothing else.
• You buy it from a domain registrar and pay for it every year. In your site's dashboard, under Settings → "Domain" → "Find a new domain", we check whether the name is free and link you to recommended registrars. It's yours: if you ever leave, it goes with you.
• It looks better on cards, vans, invoices and in Google, and it allows an email like hello@yourbusiness.com with your email provider.
• Connecting it to your website is included from the Essential plan, and without a paid plan for Founders 100 businesses.

When to take the step?

• When you're about to print the address: cards, signs, vehicles.
• When your website is already bringing in customers and you want to be remembered.
• If you already have a domain from before: connect it soon so you don't lose what it has in Google.
